A/N: Okay so I attempted to get this done because I felt bad about not posting so uhh if this isn’t what you wanted, please tell me and I will fix it. I tried to kinda do like what McEwan does in Atonement because let’s be real that fluffy language is amazing. But uhh yeah again: I do take criticism if it’s not up to your standards, just let me know!

Connor didn’t mean to take a shower at 1:30 in the morning. It just sort of happened. He didn’t mean to walk past Zoe’s room when the door was cracked, it just happened. And he definitely didn’t mean to eavesdrop on the events unfolding second by second. It just kinda happened.

Our Fate is Now: Theon Greyjoy x Reader

Sooo this is just me being selfish and writing some reader insert Theon content because i personally will make sure he lives to the end of the series or so help me god. Reader is coded female which is different from most of my works but the idea was specific in my head and here we are !!! Might write a part 2 but who knows

-You’d had known Theon from a young age. Your family had pledged their loyalty to the Starks; and with you being close to Sansa’s age they let you, their only daughter, play with the Stark siblings and their ward growing up.

-While you and Sansa were the closest, you couldn’t deny the fact that you also played games with Robb, Jon, and Theon. Your favorite was to pretend to be an invading queen and watch the boys wage play war with each other and their little wooden swords. After the battle, whether you won or not, Sansa and you would braid each other’s hair and laugh while the boys caught their breath.

-You couldn’t deny that you harbored a childhood crush on Theon Greyjoy. He was very outspoken with his flirting even as a child, and would often run headfirst into fake battle against Robb in your name. It was flattering.

-You can’t deny that when Theon grew up, that crush turned a little deeper and a little less innocent. But it hurt you to see him start to explore the attentions of other girls. You knew he would take them to bed, but you denied and ignored it for your own sanity.

-On your fifteenth birthday, you were granted mercy from this crush. But it was not without its own grief. Your parents had told you they were sending you to live with the Tullys. A terrible plague had infected much of your house and their bannermen; and with you as their only heir they could not risk you falling ill.

-You thought that being away from Theon would put a stop to your feelings, but he went and solidified them by stealing a kiss as you tearfully said goodbye to the Starks you had grown up alongside. You refused to turn to look at him as you rode away on horseback, but if you had looked, you would have seen Theon Greyjoy shed a rare tear for you. Robb would tease him for at least four days about it.

-Being away from the north for so long, you only heard news of your family and friends from rumors and the occasional raven. You knew Sansa had gone to Kings Landing, you knew Jon was at the wall, you knew Robb was the king in the north, you knew Theon had betrayed the Starks (as much as you didn’t believe it) and you knew your parents had fallen ill with the sickness they had sent you away from.

-What you hadn’t known all those years was that Theon had always found himself returning to thoughts of you. No matter what had happened to him, the happy place his mind would travel to when he shut down was of your smiling young face. Of you ordering him into battle in your honor. Of the kiss he stole. Even as Reek, the hope in the back of his mind was always you. Though Sansa never said anything to him, she knew deep down.

-As fate would have it, you find yourself returning to the north years later. Your parent have died, the sick have all either died or been cured, and you must take the place as the lady of your house. You knew that a Targaryen was headed to Winterfell and that Jon was the new king in the north. Nothing would be as it was when you finally returned, but you hoped that your return would be a new beginning.

-Your reunion with Sansa was everything you’d hoped it would be. Though she had been through so much, she was still the best friend you had missed all these years. The night you returned you not only reaffirmed house to follow her and Jon into the coming battle, but you reaffirmed your friendship. You talked late into the night with wine about all that you had both seen and experienced, and even managed to joke around a bit despite the grim future ahead.

-Arya and Jon were just as delighted to have you back, though they were not as close as you and Sansa had been.

-You were not there initially to witness Theon’s return to Winterfell. You were busy attending to the families of your army, finding women and children who were able to fight and having the soldiers help train them any way they could. Your house was known for having many skilled archers, and many of those who were not soldiers were quick learners.

-In fact, you hadn’t even known Theon was there until Sansa called down to you from a window overlooking the courtyard. She told you there was a surprise in one of the chambers and left it at that.

-Suddenly nervous of her secrecy, you slowly climbed the stair to whatever awaited you. Sansa in all of your years of knowing her had never even uttered the word surprise to you. She and you spoke very plainly in your friendship and this was unlike her.

-Opening the door, you aren’t ready to face Theon on the other side. This was the last person you expected to see and the last person you were prepared to reunite with. You were almost dizzy with the surprise of it all. Theon seems to notice this and before even greeting you grabs a chair. He’s beaming from ear to ear. If anyone else had been present, they would they they had never seen his smile that big.

-“ I’m sorry for giving you a shock. Sansa said it would be best if we met alone,” he says, and you can tell he’s sincere in his apology. You had heard of all that had happened to him, through Sansa and the rumor mill, but you were surprised to see that he had grown into himself despite all this. He LOOKED like Theon Greyjoy. He looked strong, wiser than the wild boy you had left behind.

-You want to say something. You want to tell him all that you know. You want to tell him that you’ve missed him every day. You want to tell him what’s become of you. You want to tell him it’s too late because the Night King is on his way. You have so much to stay but instead of any of that, you grab him by the arm and yank him down to your level. Kneeling between your legs while you still sit, you pull him into the tightest hug of your life that somehow conveys all that you’d want to say to each other right now. He holds you just as closely and you can feel him deeply breathing against your hair and the crook of your neck. You’re doing the same because now it’s all real again. He’s in your arms where you’ve always wanted him to be.

-you stayed silent and held one another close until the strategy meeting with all of the leaders in the north was called. Whatever happened after all of this, you just knew you couldn’t lose him again.

-And just as soon as you feel like everything is right, your heart breaks to hear him volunteer to use himself as bait. You understand that there are greater things at stake than your romantic life, but you’d rather anyone but him be out there with Bran come time for war.

-Sansa immediately senses this. She calls him to dinner with her after the meeting to ask about your and his reunion. While war looms overhead, she knows her duty as a best friend is also important. You were a cunning strategist, but even you could be distracted by emotions. She couldn’t have that now with so much at stake. She had to make sure the two of you were alright.

-While they sipped on their soup, she told him to go find you again. She was certain that you still had more to talk about.

-“She loves you, you know.” Sansa started plainly. “She has since we were kids. She was bitter about it though. Always hated seeing you entertaining others when she wanted you to herself. I wouldn’t have put it past her if she had married the second she left just to try and spite you after that kiss”

-“She wouldn’t want me now. We couldn’t-“ but Sansa shut him up with a look before he could even finish whatever it was he was going to say. With a hard stare she urged him. Finish your soup and go get her.

-It didn’t take him long to find you. You were in your chambers, two doors down from Sansa’s. You had skipped dinner and changed into a dress more suited for battle. The skirt was a bit shorter, landing at mid calf. You had light armor protecting your chest and arms. You were busy re-stringing a bow to prepare for the coming fight. You noticed him come in, but didn’t stop what you were doing.

-“You loved me.” He said. It wasn’t a question. You froze in place, your hands starting to shake. Yes, you had loved him. He was an idiot for somehow not knowing that since the day you met.

-“I still do. You know, I was serious when we were kids. When you’d vanquish Robb and return to me on the other side of the yard with your wooden sword, and I’d tell you I’d make you my king for your valiant efforts. You’d still be my king, Greyjoy.” You don’t know why you’re admitting all of this, but it feels damn good to do it. Despite everything, you know that you’d marry Theon tonight if he wanted you. If you all survived you could join your houses and live out your days together if he wanted it.

-“I couldn’t be your king. You’re not a queen.” A smile graced his features. This is the humor you missed. And his smile emboldens you. You put down your bow and cross the room. Anything to be closer to him as you speak.

-“My lord then. You could be my lord and i your lady. Anything! I just know we’ve been reunited for a reason. Our fate is now.” You don’t outright ask him to marry you for some reason, but the idea comes across loud and clear. A look of joy crossed his features, and then panic.

-He starts to rattle off reasons why you couldn’t do that. Why you’d have to wait and pick someone else even though he knew if you didn’t marry to spite him all those years ago, you’d never settle for someone that isn’t him

-“You’re the only heir to your house, your name would disappear with our union” but you counter “our union would strengthen BOTH of our houses”

-“we could never have a child” to which you say “with all of your whoring you did you think you don’t have a bastard running around somewhere? We can acknowledge him. Let him be the heir. Have him and his mother come live wherever we end up.”

-That one actually shocks him. It’s like you had been preparing for this argument and you knew exactly what he was going to say. Maybe you did prepare for this. He didn’t want to guess but continued on.

-“You’d let the mother stay near our home?” And you reach up to wrap your arms around his neck, pulling him closer until your lips are almost touching…

-“i would. I’d live in jealousy of her every day until i die, but I’d have you. And you’d have an heir. And our houses would be strong. “ you whisper, hoping that he will be convinced with this. You’d always had a jealous streak, but you also believed one must make sacrifices for love in dire times like these. “And i don’t want to face death without knowing that i am yours and you are mine”

-With that, Theon Greyjoy is done for. He kisses you for the second time in his life, a smile spreading over your lips as he does. You both grin and snicker as you continue to kiss

-“You’re sure you want me? All of what’s left of me?” He asks as you break the kiss, foreheads still touching.

“Of course,” you respond. “I’d have no other. Do you know if Sansa can marry us as Lady of Winterfell?”

-“Do you mean right now?” You nod, and he takes that as the sign to take your hand in his and pull you out of the room.

-You speed down the hallways hand in hand searching for your greatest friend, not knowing that that war is settling upon the north far quicker than you had thought it would.
